Description
Tortoĺ
is the most populated village in Ogliastra stands near
Arbatax, the sea entrance to the whole region. The port and
the 3 category airport allow for direct connection with the
mainland. Its origin is uncertain, as its name apparently
deriving from “ilio”, which would support the theory that
the place was founded by fleeing Trojans. Other sources
claim that Tortoĺ means “land of the Turtledoves”.
The mainly flat territory is situated in a vast plain facing
the sea. |
